Photographer

Photography - It all started in high school, as do many of our interests that we carry on into adulthood. My friend Kevin had an SLR and he and I spent hours experimenting with his camera. We played with the different camera settings, did double exposures and took pictures of our friends skateboarding. Lacking my own camera and money for film made my initial interest in photography rather short-lived.

After taking art classes all throughout high school, I was quickly accepted into a competitive Advertising Art/Graphic Design program. I had decided that if I wanted to make money doing something creative at least graphic design would pay the bills more so than painting, drawing or photography would. After completing the program I spent several years as a graphic designer working mainly on printed publications.

9/11 and the economic downturn meant cutbacks in the company I was at, resulting in the loss of my design job. It was just as well as I had burnt out. I looked for work far removed from doing anything creative. Working for 5 years in metal fabrication and electrical design gave me a love of doing things with my hands and an appreciation of structure.

For reasons that still remain a mystery to me a few of years ago I started being creative again. (Is it a coincidence that this occurred around the time my first daughter was born?) I have come to realize that I do not feel entirely complete without being creative. I took up photography again and it is something that I wish I would have done a lot sooner. Now I am making up for lost time. My background in graphic design has brought a strong knowledge of composition and a unique skill set to my photography.

In no order of importance here is a list of some other things that keep me smiling …

Skateboarding / Motorsports / Snowboarding / Automobiles / Music / Reading Books / Motorcycles and last but certainly not least my wife and two beautiful daughters.
